Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has blamed individuals serving within the government and at the Office of the President of causing rifts in the Jubilee Party.
“We have a concern about the existence of a small wing of individuals serving within government at the Office of the President, government ministries who are spending most of their time to plant discord in the Jubilee Party,” Murkomen told Citizen TV on Sunday night.
Murkomen accused the clique of sowing seeds of discord between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
“These same people are influencing the direction of the government with only a single agenda of separating the president and his deputy,” he claimed.
Murkomen said that if President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto do not fix their differences, the cracks will get bigger.
“If the president and deputy president do not sit down together and address the rifts, they will cause a bigger problem,” said Murkomen.
The Senator opposed the intended lifestyle audit that is being fronted by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Unfortunately, because those people (who he alleges are fighting the DP) have responsibility over the policy of the government, we have situations where things like lifestyle audit are now in place without the knowledge of anybody who is governing in Jubilee,” he said.
Murkomen stand on lifestyle audit echo those of other Rift Valley leaders who have opposed it.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has criticised Uhuru’s call for a lifestyle audit of all public servants saying it is not supported by any clause in the Constitution.
Cherargei said the call for lifestyle audit is a ploy to sabotage some leader’s aspirations in the run to 2022 successive politics.
Whereas Sudi wants the lifestyle audit to start with Uhuru’s father Jomo Kenyatta, Murkomen wondered why “Raila Odinga is 100 times richer than William Ruto, yet no one has asked for his lifestyle audit”.
