The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has approved the prosecution of Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and nine other county officials for abuse of office and violation of procurement procedures.
Sospeter Ojaamong and his co-accused will face charges of conspiring to steal more than Sh 20 million from Busia County government and flouting procurement procedures.
The EACC investigations which drawback to 2016 accuse the governor of single sourcing a company called Madam R Ltd and giving it a tender for waste management without following the right procedure.
Busia County then paid another company with a similar name, Madam R, which was a sole proprietorship. An EACC official told the Star that the money was then transferred to an account in Germany.
